For front-engine rear-drive vehicles, the torque generated by the engine is transmitted to the rear wheels through the clutch, gearbox, universal joint, drive shaft, final drive, differential, and half shaft in sequence. Therefore, the rear wheels are also known as drive wheels. When the drive wheels receive torque, they apply a rearward force to the ground, which in turn generates a forward reaction force on the drive wheels. This reaction force is the driving force of the vehicle. The front wheels of the vehicle generally have no direct power connection with the drivetrain, and are therefore called driven wheels.
